The Weathervane

Kirk Memorial at the south end of the Quad has been one of our campus landmarks since 1940 and everyone is familiar with its white columns, beautiful stained glass windows, domed roof and cupola, all topped with a weathervane.  But have you really looked at that weathervane in the past few years? It hasn’t changed directions since the summer of 1996!

When we became Truman State University on July 1 that year, the weathervane was welded in place to forever point northeast in honor of “Northeast Missouri State”, our name in one form or another, for 77 years (1919-1996).  A fitting tribute indeed.
