Interlibrary
Loan
Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service of the Reference
Department. Its purpose is to obtain materials which are not
available in Pickler Memorial Library and to loan circulating materials requested by other libraries. Conditions of
this service are governed by the National Interlibrary Loan Code (adopted by the American Library
Association) and the Copyright Law, Title 17, U.S. Code.
Items may also be borrowed directly through the MOBIUS and LANCE Catalogs and have their own set of borrowing policies, see the MOBIUS/LANCE page for details.
Who
May Borrow
Interlibrary Loan Services are available to Truman faculty, students, and
staff at no charge. Those holding a valid Faculty/Staff Designated Guest Card
will be charged $5.00 per filled request. This fee will be added to
their Library Account when the items arrive.
Others should use the services of their own public library.
Loan
Periods
The lending library sets the loan period and any restrictions on the use of
the materials. It is important that books are returned on time to maintain
good relationships among libraries.
Renewals
Renewal of Interlibrary Loan materials is subject to the lending library's
policy. To request a renewal, bring the item(s) into the Interlibrary Loan
Office. Requests for renewals should be submitted before the items are overdue.
Costs
If books are not returned promptly, the
user will be billed $120.00 (minimum) for replacement costs. This applies to all
users.

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS The copyright law of the United States (Title 17 United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "Fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if in its judgement, fullfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. |
Time it Takes to Receive Materials
The receipt of materials depends on the location of the lending library and
the method of delivery utilized by the lending library. Allow at least two weeks
for delivery. Each request will be processed as quickly as possible.
Limits
The Library reserves the right to limit the number of ILL
requests processed for one patron at a given time.
Truman students may have up to 150 items checked out--this could be any combination of Truman materials and those obtained from other libraries.
Truman faculty may have up to 300 items checked out--this could be any combination of Truman materials and those obtained from other libraries.
