The Periodicals Department houses over 1800 current magazines and journals, 40 newspapers, and many microfilm/fiche collections.  Underlined links below provide listings of holdings.

Current Periodicals are shelved in Alphabetical order on the northwest end of 1st floor.

Bound Periodicals are all located on the first floor with A-PA located on the northwest side of the first floor and PB-Z located on the northeast side of the first floor.

Current Newspapers are located on the northeast end of the first floor along the windows.  Back issues are placed in hanging folders until microfilm is received.  The library carries a variety of local, large city, and foreign newspapers which include Chinese, German, Japanese, French, Italian, Russian, and Spanish.

Newspapers on microfilm
The library receives a number of newspapers on microfilm.  Some of these include the Kirksville Daily Express, Kansas City Star, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, as well as a number of African American Newspapers and early American Periodicals.

Microfilm/fiche Collections
Pickler Memorial Library houses over 1.4 million pieces of microfiche and over 48,000 rolls of microfilm including newspaper microfilm, government documents film & fiche, Early English Books, American Periodicals, Afro-American newspaper collection, as well as many other collections. These microform collections are located to the north of the Periodicals Office/Help Desk.

Microfilm/fiche readers and printers are located on the south side of the Periodicals office.  The library has 11 microfilm readers, 6 microfiche readers, and 6 film/fiche printers available during the library's open hours.  Paper copies from microfilm/fiche are 10 cents a page.

NEW! Digital Microform Scanner - Research is made just a little bit easier when you use the library's Digital Microform Scanner, a computer, and Capture Perfect software. Instead of trying to read the microfilm on the screen or printing it out page by page, you can now save many pages of microform documents - e-mail them to colleagues, save to a jump drive or 3 1/2 inch disc.  students, faculty and staff may also save them on their Y drives.
