Reference Department

Reference Department staff help library users locate information and research material.
The Reference Desk on the first floor is the first stop for those who need assistance in learning what resources are available and how to use them. The Reference Department staff are available at the Reference Desk during the following hours:
      

Monday - Thursday	7:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Friday	7:30 a.m. -  9:00 p.m.
Saturday	11:00 a.m. -  6:00 p.m.
Sunday	1:00 p.m.  - 10:00 p.m.

Student workers staff the desk Sunday-Thursday from 10:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m.

Reference librarians give library tours and workshops on information resources. Faculty may invite a reference librarian to explain and demonstrate sources of  interest to a particular class.  An electronic classroom with 30 computers is available in the library for this purpose.  For more information see Classroom Support for Faculty.

The Reference Department maintains the Government Documents Collection as well as the Reference Collection.  Reference books include:  almanacs, biographical information, dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, handbooks, maps, phonebooks, research tools, statistics, and style guides. They are shelved on the first floor.  Many electronic resources are also available.

Interlibrary Loan is part of the Reference Department.  Through this service students, faculty, and staff may obtain materials from other libraries when Pickler Library resources have been exhausted.  Items may be requested by:
                           (1) Logging onto Interlibrary Loan Services
                           (2) Ordering directly when using a FirstSearch database.
                           (3) Filling out forms at the reference desk.
