EndNote: Importing Citations from
EBSCOhost Databases

These instructions are written for using Internet Explorer as your browser.

You can search any of the Ebsco databases and save citations to articles of interest directly into EndNote.

1. If you have not already done so, create the EndNote Library (database) where you want to import the references.  (You can also put them in an existing EndNote Library.)
2. Search EBSCOhost as you normally would.
3. Click on Export.
4. Click on Direct Export in RIS Format (CITAVI, EasyBib, EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, Zotero) then Save.
5. Choose Destination - EndNote
6. EndNote will open.

7. On the Import Screen there are boxes requiring input:

   • Import  File:  Click on Choose .  Specify the directory and the name of the file you just saved.  Click on Open and the information will be put in the provided box.
   • Import Options:  Choose EndNote Library from the pull down menu. 
   • Duplicates:  Specify desired option from the pull down menu.

After the file information has been entered into the three provided boxes click on Import. 
The file of the saved citations will be automatically imported into your open EndNote library.

It is wise to check your references after importing to make sure it was done correctly.
Once the documents are in your library (your database) you can edit them as desired.
