Truman Week and Extended Truman Week Classes
The Library participates in both Truman Week and Extended Truman
Week classes.
Truman Week: Students take a self-guided tour of the Library
where they learn the overall layout of the building and generally
where things are. The tour includes some questions to make
sure they are in the right place. This is administered through
the Residential College program.
Extended Truman Week classes: In order to fulfill part of the
Computer Literacy Requirement of the LSP, the Undergraduate Council
and Faculty Senate require that all Extended Truman Week classes
schedule a Database Workshop with the Library. This workshop
is designed to introduce the Library Catalog, MOBIUS, and
subscription databases, as well as present search techniques
used in bibliographic databases. This basic workshop
emphasizes finding items in our Library and critically evaluating
sources, including distinguishing scholarly journals from popular
magazines.
Students benefit most from the workshop when it is tied to a relevant assignment that utilizes the demonstrated skills and concepts within the context of your class. If you do not have a library-oriented assignment as part of your course, we'll be glad to work with you to design an appropriate assignment.
