Guide to Music Information Resources
The serious researcher will need material that may not be available in PML. The following catalogs will help you identify works that you may be able to borrow on Interlibrary Loan.
WorldCat. WorldCat reports the holdings of libraries
from around the world. It contains more than 40 million records in
all subject areas and in many formats, including books, maps, journals,
videocassettes, musical scores, newspapers, etc. owned by contributing
libraries. You might want to search this database if you are not finding
items in the library catalog or through MOBIUS. You can request items directly from the
WorldCat database by clicking on the ILL link at the top of any given record
(rather than going back to the library's home page and accessing the Forms
link).
WorldCat is easily accessed from the library's
home page under "Search for Books and other Media."
MOBIUS. This is a consortium of Missouri academic
libraries including Pickler Memorial Library. (See "MOBIUS"
under Pickler Memorial Library Services at the
beginning of this guide). You can search MOBIUS from any computer with web access: http://mobius.missouri.edu
Of course, many libraries now have
web-interface catalogs and are available to the public for browsing. Just
keep in mind that to borrow materials from other libraries, you need to do so
through your library's interlibrary loan service, MOBIUS or WorldCat.
