Biographical Sources
For book-length biography, do a subject search in
the catalog
using the name of the person as the subject. For example:
bernstein leonard
You could also try a keyword search for the person and add the keyword,
"biography."
For example: mozart AND biography
If you are interested in locating biographical sources on composers from a
specific country, or of a particular minority or racial/ethnic background, you
can do subject searches, such as the following:
composers united states biography
composers austria
biography
african american
composers biography
women composers biography
Biography and Genealogy Master Index is an
online subscription index to various biographical references such as Who’s Who in America, Current Biography,
etc. The database allows for two users online simultaneously. Simply
try back a little later if it is "busy." We
also have the print version in Reference, Table E, CT 214 .B56 for the years
1980-1997. Ask a reference librarian if you need help using it.
There are also numerous biographical
dictionaries. The following are several we have in Reference.
