Abstract: Correspondence accumulated during Wat Arnold's
terms as Representative in the House of Representatives, U.S. Congress
(1943-1949), during which time he represented the interests of his
constituents in the First District of Missouri (Adair, Clark, Daviess,
Grundy, Knox, Lewis, Linn, Livingston, Macon, Marion, Mercer, Putnam,
Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby and Sullivan Counties). Correspondence
includes letters, photographs, telegrams, newspaper clippings, and more. |

Arnold Biography (from the Official
Manual, State of Missouri, 1943-1944): WAT ARNOLD (Republican), born on a
farm near Downing, Schuyler County, Mo., September 21, 1879; attended the
Coffey, Mo., rural school and was graduated from the Kirksville State Teachers
College [First District Normal School]; taught school at Atlanta, Mo., 1903-04;
entered the lumber business in 1905, and in 1908 organized the Arnold Lumber
Co., in which company he is now associated with his son, Sam M. Arnold; past
president of the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce of Kirksville; active
in civic and fraternal organizations; member of the Presbyterian Church; married
Miss Myra Gertrude Mills; three children; elected to the Seventy-eighth Congress
on November 3, 1942.
