2:20 - Benjamin F Heiny Residence
703 N Franklin |
|
This home, known as the B F Heiny House, was rental property until after the
turn of the century. Joseph S
Conner and his family were tenants in 1900 and the Heinys moved in
sometime later. We are still working on the identity of the original owner.
Benjamin Heiny
came to Kirksville in 1867 as a student in Baldwin’s new Normal School
and remained the rest of his life.
He was Adair County Clerk, owned the Normal Bookstore, and was
owner/editor of the Kirksville
Journal. In 1891, he and a
partner organized the National Bank of Kirksville.
