Provenance: The Knobbs Sheet Music Collection contains music scores owned by the Dingle family and  accumulated into a collection by Dr. Pauline Dingle Knobbs. 
Biography of Dr. Knobbs (1903-1987):
Professor emeritus of social science, as well as an alumna from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, Dr. Pauline Dingle Knobbs was born in Palymra, Mo. to James Shannon and Anna Thompson Dingle. Married shortly after graduating from NMSTC (1924) to Dr. Wallace J. Knobbs, Pauline received her Masters (1943) and PhD (1946) from George Peabody College. 

Her life in Kirksville was filled with teaching and public service; Knobbs not only served as an educator at the Kirksville Public Schools (1925-1939) and NMSTC (1939-1974),  but was also active in over twenty-three academic and social organizations, including Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Outstanding Women Teachers (of which she was a charter member), Kappa Delta Pi (National Honor Society in Education), Pi Gamma Mu (Social Science Honor Society), Phi Alpha Theta (International Honor Society in History), Cardinal Key, Sojournors Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. 

Dr. Knobbs is the author of several educational and historical publications, including Americans All: Studies in Intercultural Education (1942), The Development of the Separate System of Education in Missouri (1946), The Introduction of General Education Into the Teachers Colleges of the United States (1943), and The Civil War in Marion County (1924).  Additionally, she is credited with organizing the University Archives under the direction of President Walter Ryle.
