Connelley Interviews concerning the Quantrill raid on Lawrence, Kansas, August 21, 1863
[Manuscript Collection C4]
William E. Connelley interviewed five people who knew Quantrill or who survived his August 21, 1863 raid on Lawrence, Kansas.  Each had a different perspective of William Clarke Quantrill or of the raid; two mention John Brown and his activities of 1856; none is cited in Quantrill and the Border Wars.  The three 1909 reports are in Connelley's handwriting and accompanied by typed transcripts; both versions are signed by Connelley.

Missouri Militia Rosters 1864, 1874
[Manuscript Collection M2]
This is an artificial collection created by the Pickler Memorial Library Special Collections Department staff.  There are no acquisition records for these documents; nothing to tell us how, when or from whom they were obtained, or even if they came from the same or different sources. They have just “always been here” in the local history files, so we have grouped them together as a unit to make them available for use.
Violette Collection of WWI Soldiers' Letters
[Museum DP Collection V1]
Professor E.M. Violette, head of the History Department at the First District State Normal School, collected these letters for their historic value.  Some were the result of a campaign by the Normal School and the Kirksville Rotary Club to see that Adair County soldiers received mail, some were donated by the soldiers’ families, and nearly all were printed in the Kirksville Daily Express or the Normal School Index.
Zeigler Civil War Letters
[Manuscript Collection Z1]
Letters from Samuel and Clark Zeigler written home during military service in Arkansas with the 7th Missouri Volunteer Cavalry, and to John Zeigler from a friend [relative?] serving in North Carolina.
