Scope: This collection includes a selection of the many documents of Thomas A. Edison.  It includes: patents; notebooks; accounts; litigation; scrapbooks; letters; legal documents; and financial records from 1850-1898. The original documents in this edition are from the archives at the Edison National Historic Site at West Orange, New Jersey.

How to search the collection: There is no subject index to this collection.  There is a guide in three parts, A Guide to Thomas A. Edison Papers: a Selective Microfilm Edition, Part 1-3. (Microfilm TK 140 E3 T45).  Part 1 covers 1850-1978; Part 2 covers 1879-1886; Part 3 covers 1887-1898.   Each guide has a Table of Contents.  They also have indexes to: what is on each reel; authors and recipients of correspondence; a chronological index to technical notes and drawings; and a chronological index to financial documents.
