Scope: This file traces the activities of the Black Panther Party in North Carolina from 1968-1976. According to the print guide that accompanies this collection, the documents, "while mainly surveillance reports and associated investigation memoranda, include correspondence within the FBI as well as with other federal and some state and local agencies, legal memoranda, Black Panther Party publications, transcriptions of speeches by spokespersons of the BPP. . .digests and partial transcriptions of phone intercepts at BPP national headquarters. A considerable amount of data can be gleaned from these files about the Black Panthers' national headquarters as well as its operations in Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Newark, New York and New Haven." How to search the collection: This collection is contained on 2 rolls of film. Roll 1 contains Sections 1-7, covering June 11, 1969 through October 17, 1970. Roll 2 contains Section 8-14, covering January 19, 1971 through January 15, 1973. While sections are arranged chronologically, documents within each section are ordered in reverse chronology. The only description of content is found in the Introduction portion of the print guide, as there are no "Roll Notes."
