Report of the  Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts

Location: Microfiche Cabinet 16, Drawer 9-10

Scope

These reports describe privately owned collections of manuscripts of historical interest. There are two kinds of reports in the collection: 1) Commissioners’ reports made to the crown and 2) Inspectors’ reports on individual collections. The Inspectors’ reports are the reports of interest, but they will vary in the details they give about individual manuscripts.

How to search the collection

Most of the reports or parts of reports have an index at the end of the report or report part. These indexes cover place and personal names. There is a subject index which covers only the first nine reports: Guide to Sources of English History from 1603 to 1660 in Early Reports of the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts (Reference DA25 M1 U6 1964). This collection is also listed in sectional list 17, Publications of the Royal Commission on Historical manuscripts which is located on top of the microfiche cabinet holding the reports.
