Witchcraft in New England

Scope

This microfilm collection covers the printed history and interpretation of witchcraft occurrences in New England from 1648 through the end of the first quarter of the 20th century and represents over 7,000 pages of information gleaned from the over 1,500 item Salem Village witchcraft collection maintained by the Danvers Archival Center of Massachusetts. This collection centers around the wealth of materials relating to the most famous and well-documented witch outbreak in history, that of Salem Village in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1692.

How to search the collection

All of the items in Witchcraft in New England are cataloged in Truman’s Library Catalog  and can be searched by author, title, keyword or subject.  The Library Catalog record gives the reel location of each item.  There is a guide (shelved at  Microfilm BF 1575 W58 1980) that has a list of the publications in the collection.  It also has an index by reel and item number as well as by place of publication
