Scope

This collection of 140 microfilm reels contains the case files for the Adair County Circuit Court for the years 1841 to 1899.

The Court Cases offer an engaging look into the judicial system of Adair County in the late 1800s with court cases ranging from the heinously criminal to the simplest of civil suits. This microfilm collection is a useful research tool for historians and genealogists as well as a leisurely yet insightful read.

In collaboration with the Missouri Secretary of State Digital Heritage initiative, the Truman State University Digital Library has incorporated a selection of cases from the Adair County Circuit Court into a digital collection.

How to search the collection

Each trial is arranged chronologically by date of the trial or other proceedings. Volume 1 and 2 provide a general name index to the series of 140 reels of microfilm covering the dates 1841 to 1897. Volumes 139 and 140 contain miscellaneous cases and moldy cases that are not included chronologically with the rest of the cases.
