Scope
This collection contains the proceedings of the Social Welfare Forum. Earlier names of the Conference are: 1874, Conference of Boards of Public Charities; 1875-1879, Conference of Charities; 1880-1881, Conference of Charities and Correction; 1882-1916, National Conference of Charities and Correction; 1917-1956, National Conference of Social Work; 1957- , National Conference on Social Welfare. The collection provides a look at the way the poor and “insane” were dealt with in the U.S. in the late 19th and 20th centuries. A print edition of the 1970-1983 proceedings is located in the General Collection at HV 88 A3.
How to search the collection
There is a cumulative and subject index for 1874-1933. The index gives the year for an item as well as the page number. Subsequent to 1933, each year has an index which includes names and subjects.
