Unpublished U. S. Senate Committee Hearings, 1823-1968

Location: Microfiche Cabinet 27, Drawer 6-7

Scope

The Senate has not always had a consistent effort to record or preserve their Senate committee hearings. If fact, they did not commit themselves to a formal policy of recording committee hearings until 1946. Many of the unpublished transcripts are of hearings held in executive sessions. Hearings of the Subcommittee on Internal Security (Committee on Judiciary) and the Permanent Investigations Subcommittee (Committee on Government Operations) are excluded from the collection. The Unpublished U.S. Senate Committee Hearings covers from 1823-1968.

How to search the collection

The CIS Index to Unpublished U.S. Senate Committee Hearings: 18th Congress-88th Congress, 1823-1964 (Reference KF 40 C55 1986) and its companion index for the 89th Congress-90th Congress, 1965-1968 are the tools to use to find an unpublished hearing.  There are indexes by subject and organization; personal names; titles; and bill numbers.

1. Select the index for the years that you need.

2. Search for the title/name/subject that you want.  Write down the citation.
